Admit it, you like Sloppy Joe’s. Big Poppa has a special place in his heart for Sloppy Joe’s. Big Poppa twists up the classic Sloppy Joe by using ground pork and adding bacon to the mix.
Big Poppa’s Slow Cooker Sloppy Joe is easy to make and will have even the toughest sloppy joe critic admitting their love for the messy, but delicious sandwich.
Ingredients
- 1/2 onion
- 1 whole red bell pepper
- 1.5 Ground Pork packets
- 3 tablespoons peanut oil
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 cup Bacon

2 teaspoons Big Poppa Smokers Jallelujah Jalapeno Seasoning Salt
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 garlic clove
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons Big Poppa Smokers Double Secret Steak Rub
- 1.5 cup water
- 4 Hawaiian Sweet Buns
Directions
- Preheat skillet
- Slice onion, red pepper, and bacon into small pieces
- Add peanut oil to skillet
- Add onion & peppers to skillet
- Stir onion and peppers until cooked, remove from skillet
- Add ground pork to skillet, cook for 5 minutes a side
- Break up ground pork and stir until fully cooked
- Transfer the cooked ground pork to a bowl, cool for 5 minutes
- Add cooked ground pork to a grinder – we recommend to pulse (Big Poppa likes a fine grind)
- Transfer ground pork to a bowl
- Add the following ingredients to the crockpot: ketchup, Bacon, Big Poppa Smokers Jallelujah Jalapeno Seasoning Salt, tomato paste, dried mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, brown sugar, Big Poppa Smokers Double Secret Steak Rub, onion, peppers, and 1.5 cups of water
- Stir all ingredients together in the crockpot
- Add cooked ground pork to the crockpot
- Cook at high for 1 hour then allow to simmer on low for the last 2 hours
- Turn off crockpot and scoop the mix onto the buns
- Plate and serve
